How do you double check references and referrals the right way?

All too often references and referrals are not given the right attention and in turn, problems arise quickly with people that present the perfect package, but lack in the ability and knowledge to execute what they claim they can do.

So how do you double check references the right way?

The first step is to dig deeper into what they have claimed. Talk to former employees and when you ask clients about them, if you are considering hiring them, find out all the details!

The idea is to find out what they did with what they had to give you a better idea of what they can do with what you have.

Ok, put a little more simply… Someone that can do a job as long as a client has a six-figure marketing budget may not be able to help out effectively for someone that works off a four-figure budget. While they did wonderful things with a lot of cash, there may be a very strong chance, they can’t do the same with less.

How do you double check references… By vetting comparisons

Find out how this person or company has operated on the time frames you require!

Look into how they could operate on the budget that you have!

Examine proof of concept examples and proof that they can do what they say they can!

And get on the phone! Again, get on the phone… Not an email exchange to find out if you are talking to someone else or it is just an email and reference they made up… This happens way too much these days!

How do you double check references the right way?
By taking the time to dig into the details, the facts and the examples of the people you want to have work for you or those you want to hire. Put in the time in order to save time and reduce problems down the line.
