Words to remove from your book or at least consider removing
Fluff is an understatement in many books, sales pitches, marketing and promotional pieces these days. The same goes for many of those talks and seminars where if you pulled out all the excess hype words, it would take a sixty-minute seminar down to 16 minutes.
On the same page with the books, remove those filler words and you make a six hundred page novel under two hundred pages.
Maybe that’s a bit of an overgeneralization, but you have heard those words, seen those words and to an extent, use them. I know I do, but I am trying to less and less too.
And here we go…
Actually
Basically
Certainly
Definitely
Essentially
Finally
Greatly
Honestly
Immediately
Just
Killer
Literally
Mastermind
Nearly
Obviously
Probably
Quite
Really
Simply
Then
Usually
Very
Wonderful
eXtra – (I know, kinda reaching here)
Yearning
Zealous
Look at how those words can be pulled from your book and how in many cases, those words take away an assertive tone and confidence from the delivery.
Is it basically this and that?
Or
It is this and that!
The confidence in your presentation, presence, and words is important. Take that extra time to deliver the way you want to be heard with the words that will be heard over the fluff and filler to get your message out.
